Madison Shammas, Community Outreach Assistant

As TILT’s Community Outreach Assistant Madison assists with Treks and Events, supports membership and fundraising activities, and is the friendly face greeting visitors in the TILT first floor exhibit area.

Madison holds a B.S in Biology, with a concentration in Evolution and Ecology from SUNY Potsdam. While in school she was the Outreach Coordinator Intern for the WISER Center Greenhouse and created the first TikTok for the greenhouse drawing students both into the center and into the college itself which resulted in winning the Ram L. Chugh Public Service Award. Through effective social media marketing strategies, she helped to increase community involvement on campus. Along with these skills, Madison brings a passion for nature and making a difference in the world.

A native from LaFargeville, Madison has gained invaluable experience in grant writing, graphic design, social media management. Madison brings her passion for science and getting people out on the land to discover and explore their own personal connections to nature and the environment.  She shares our belief that all educational, recreational, and outreach experiences are beneficial to our community at large because the health and wellness of all River residents is interconnected with our stewardship of the land.  When not working, Madison can be found kayaking, hiking, traveling or camping with her fiancé .
