Join the Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) for the annual Birkhead Lecture!
A Hidden Heritage, The Native people of the 1000 Islands: A story of over 600 Generations in a changing landscape with local archaeologist, Ken Knapp.
For over 12,500 years Indigenous people inhabited the Thousand Islands and Eastern Lake Ontario Region. During this time the landscape saw incredible, almost unimaginable changes, all witnessed by the First Peoples of this Region. From the end of the ice age to the arrival of Europeans, this Region was home to large numbers of Native peoples. Through archeology, their hidden heritage is slowly coming to light, even more so under recent renewed research efforts.
The lecture will provide an overview of the long Indigenous presence in this Region in the context of the dynamic changes to the landscape as well as the areas that the Thousand Islands Land Trust currently conserves that contain Native cultural resources.
The annual Birkhead Lecture is made possible by the generosity of Guthrie and Louise Birkhead and is free to the public.
To ensure we have enough seating available, please register in advance for this event by emailing [email protected], by calling the TILT office at 315-686-5345, or by signing up here.
