Birkhead Lecture: The Hidden World of Land Snails

Thursday, August 26, 2021 - 5:30pm to 7:00pm

Zenda Farms Preserve

Have you ever wondered about the tiny creatures that call our gardens and wildlands home? Carrying their home with them wherever they go, land snails are responsible for much of the crucial decomposition work in our environment and we have much to learn about these mysterious creatures.

Join the Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) for the annual Birkhead Lecture: “The Hidden World of Land Snails” with Marla Coppolino on August 26th, 5:30pm at Zenda Farms and learn all about the native ground snails in the Thousand Islands.

Bird Academy Course Developer for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Biological Illustrator, and malacologist, Marla will deliver an interactive presentation highlighting her work specializing in land snail species distributions, ecology, and conservation. No stranger to the field, Marla will help attendees get a bug’s-eye-view during a hands-on discussion in the Zenda Community Garden and discuss non-native snail species that you may encounter in our region. The presentation will be followed by a brief reception with treats and refreshments, where attendees can further reflect, discuss, and learn about land snails and the work Marla is doing to study and protect native species in our region.

The annual Birkhead Lecture is made possible by the generosity of Guthrie and Louise Birkhead is are free to the public.

To ensure we have enough seating available, please register in advance for this event by emailing [email protected], by calling the TILT office at 315-686-5345, or by signing up here.
