A Tribute to Sue Smith

Sue Smith was a beloved member of our Grindstone community and a force of good her entire life. Her love of life and the River was felt by everyone who was lucky enough to know her.

A true River Rat, Sue grew up on Occident Island by Fisher’s Landing. Sue and her husband Dave celebrated 59 years together, having spent many on Grindstone at their cottage on Swiftwater Point. Both Sue and Dave became an integral part of the Island community. Sue was always the first to help, a strong supporter of the Church, volunteer at the annual turkey dinner, as a Board Member of the Grindstone Island Heritage Center, and active in fundraisers and coffees.

Sue was a strong supporter of TILT. She was a fixture as a volunteer at the Zenda Community Picnic and Volunteer Recognition every year.  The Smith's also supported TILT’s conservation efforts on Grindstone. Their unwavering financial support helped make projects like the Grindstone Island Nature Trail and Rusho Farm Grassland Restoration possible. Sue’s love for Grindstone Island and its people never waned. Her contributions, smile, good word and helping hand will forever be remembered.
