TILT Offers Exciting Opportunity for Students!

  • 2015 TILT Summer Land Stewards and Summer Land &Volunteer Stewardship Intern assisting with the Grindstone Island Mule Tour (L-R) Rob Kunz, Joey Morris & Hope VanBrocklin

Summer Land Stewards play a critical role in the Land Trust’s property maintenance and land conservation activities and participate in all aspects of the organization, from learning about conservation, teamwork, and administration, to understanding the unique characteristics associated with working for non-profits. Responsibilities out in the field include: assisting with trail maintenance and land management, monitoring conservation easements, and learning how to operate equipment and vehicles safely. Summer Land Stewards also help TILT’s outreach and education staff with coordinating TILTreks and KidsTreks, which are free, outdoor educational opportunities that are designed to get people of all ages “out on the land” hiking, biking and paddling. There is also the opportunity to gain experience in an office setting through outreach, writing press releases and newsletter articles as well as various administrative tasks.

The Summer Land &Volunteer Stewardship Intern will assist with the recruitment, training and management of volunteers in order to aid the organization in its mission to conserve our region’s most important natural resources. Volunteers help provide valuable information about wetland health, current trail conditions, invasive and indicator species, as well as assess the overall health of the land. The Summer Land &Volunteer Stewardship Intern alongside the volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on land conservation training sessions held throughout the summer months.

TILT's Summer Land Steward Program has been made possible by the generosity of the Northern New York Community Foundation, the Fresh Sound Foundation and individual supporters of the Land Trust.

For more information about the Summer Land Stewardship Internships, please contact TILT’s Stewardship Coordinator, Brandon Hollis at 315-686-5345 or [email protected] or visit the website at www.TILandTrust.org.
