Conservation Connections

Field Trip Highlight

During the first academic year of this element of the program, TILT engaged with three different school districts and one homeschool group. Children and their educators got out on the land at Zenda Farms Preserve, the S. Gerald Ingerson Preserve and Chippewa Bay Preserve. These field trips are important because they offer learning experiences that enhance engagement, social skills, cultural awareness, critical thinking and motivation among students. They complement traditional classroom instruction by providing hands-on, real-world learning opportunities that contribute to a holistic education.

In summary, this exciting program includes in-school lessons and field trips curated to teach local youth about the importance of conservation. We look forward to expanding this program and cultivating the future stewards of the Thousand Islands and beyond. Classroom Highlight

TILT enjoyed the opportunity to visit the 5th Grade Class at Guardino Elementary. The lesson touched upon Signature Preserves, sparking discussion among students about how many they’ve visited and the importance of getting outside. Further, the team and students delved into forest connectivity, establishing its relevance with the A2A Wildway being in their backyard. TILT staff left inspired by the students’   knowledge and engagement.
