Farewells- Nancy Seeley

  • Nancy Seely at the Geiss Observation Tower on the Rivergate Trail in July of 2022 displaying her inspiring smile while enjoying the outdoors.

Nancy’s smile said it all. Her zest for life was only matched by her love of the outdoors and passion to help others by giving back to the communities she cared so much for. The St. Lawrence River was one of the places she loved deeply.

As a member of the Land Trust for 35 years, her impact on environmental education and conservation has been immeasurable, shaping the landscapes and the minds and values of countless individuals who will carry her legacy forward into the future. Nancy’s dedication was invaluable and a true testament to shared values of community, the environment and conserving this vital resource for future generations.

Nancy and her family knew that TILT’s mission to conserve land in the Thousand Islands region relies heavily on engaging the public about the importance of land conservation, and teaching kids to love the land. Through the Leonard C. and Mildred F. Ferguson Foundation, they helped to create and sustain the TILTKids Treks environmental education program from day one. Their commitment to providing resources for children's growth and development, coupled with their dedication to environmental education, has left an indelible mark on countless young lives. Through their generosity and vision, they have empowered children to explore, learn, and thrive in a world where environmental awareness is paramount.

The roots Nancy planted here at “The River” will continue to grow and influence the lives of children for generations to come. She will be deeply missed but her enduring legacy and smile will shine on inspiring others to become conservation champions of the Thousand Islands region and beyond.
