April Frederick Joins TILT Staff

April Frederick joined the TILT team this summer as the new Community Outreach Assistant. April assists with Treks and Events, supports membership and fundraising activities, and greets visitors in the TILT first floor exhibit area.

April holds a B.S. in Natural Resources from Oregon State University. Throughout her 30-year career in environmental education, she has had opportunities to teach in some of the country's most beautiful landscapes, from the sagebrush steppes of the Northwest to the swamps and saltmarshes of the Southeast. Along with extensive experience in education program development, April brings with her a passion for getting people out on the land to discover and explore their own personal connections to nature and the environment.

Although originally from Indiana, April recently moved to Hammond from Florida where she coordinated education and public programs for the Manatee Observation and Education Center. She fell in love with the North Country while working for the Indian River Lakes Conservancy and is thrilled to be back in the Thousand Islands. April and her husband, Roger, operate a new family-owned cabin rental property in Oak Point where they enjoy introducing guests to the beauty and ecological importance of the St. Lawrence River.

When she's not working, April can be found kayaking, hiking, traveling or camping with her husband and their dog. April says that often she finds it difficult to turn off her 'inner teacher' and loves the chance to share a unique plant, beautiful insect, or interesting bird with fellow hikers and paddlers.

Please join us in welcoming April to the TILT team where she can let her 'inner teacher' run wild!
