This summer, Spencer Busler, Director of Land Conservation, attended the Wetland Assessment, Restoration and Management Course offered by the the US Fish & Wildlife Service National Conservation Training Center.
Over 20 conservation professionals from across the country participated in the week-long wetland education program. Through lectures, field work and group activities, the participants learned about wetland ecology, wildlife needs, TILT’s roles in wetland conservation, enhancement of wetland functions, conceptual design and implementation processes, structural and vegetative restoration practices, permitting requirements, control of nuisance and invasive species and other management considerations.
Terra Bach, Education and Outreach Coordinator, and Rebecca Dahl, Zenda Farms Preserve Cordinator attended the Master Naturalist Training offered by Cornell University’s Department of Natural Resources. It was a two and a half day immersion into topics like entomology, forest restoration, mushrooms, tree identification, native animals, ferns, and more, that took place in Cornell’s Arnot Forest in Van Etten, NY.
The training makes Terra and Rebecca better stewards of the land and better educators about the natural world. This training is the first step to becoming a Master Naturalist.
The Land Trust Alliance hosts an annual convention, Rally, where land trust professionals can learn, network, find inspiration, share information and experiences. TILT staff and trustees have attended most years, and have made presentations twice. This year, trustee and board secretary Robin Hoffman will present, and staff members Jake Tibbles, Terra Bach, and Brandon Hollis will attend.
