Thousand Islands Land Trust and Ducks Unlimited Partner for Wetland Restoration Project

The Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) and Ducks Unlimited (DU) are proud to announce an exciting new conservation success at the Eddy Road property in Theresa, NY. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to restoring and maintaining critical wetland habitats in the Thousand Islands region, safeguarding water quality, and enhancing biodiversity for generations to come.

The 145-acre Eddy Road property was recently donated to TILT by Ducks Unlimited who completed extensive restoration efforts including earthwork and native plantings designed to revitalize its wetlands and surrounding grasslands. Completed activities include re-establishing natural hydrology, planting native vegetation, and managing invasive species to create a vibrant ecosystem that supports diverse wildlife. The project will benefit species such as American and Least Bitterns, Grasshopper Sparrows, and a variety of waterfowl including Mallards, Wood Ducks, and Green-winged Teal.

“This project exemplifies how shared commitment can drive meaningful conservation efforts, benefitting both nature and communities alike,” said Dr. Patrick Raney, DU’s Director of Conservation Programs – Mitigation.

Situated within the Indian River watershed, the Eddy Road property plays a crucial role in enhancing water quality. Wetlands act as natural filters, trapping sediments and pollutants while mitigating flooding by storing excess water. TILT’s long-term monitoring and management efforts will ensure that restoration goals are met and that the benefits of the project endure over time.

“Partnering with Ducks Unlimited on this project reinforces TILT’s mission to protect and enhance the unique natural resources of the Thousand Islands,” said Spencer Busler, TILT’s Assistant Director. “The Eddy Road restoration highlights the importance of collaborative conservation and the tangible results we can achieve together. We are grateful for the longstanding partnership.”

The Eddy Road project is an excellent example of the conservation community uniting to create meaningful and lasting impact. TILT and Ducks Unlimited are paving the way for a healthier, more connected landscape across the Thousand Islands region.
